Burj Daman – DIFC – Dubai
After having transformed the standard three bedrooms apartments into a loft like flat in my previous renovation, I followed the same organisation at the client’s request, but this time with a Bali inspired mood. Limestone floors and walls, wooden sliding doors letting the sunlight play on the walls, exotic green quartzite contrasting with rusted tiles and paint. While, again, ultra minimalist, the overall feel remains warm, especially with the furniture and fabric selection.

The existing three bedrooms layout in Burj Daman is very “claustrophobic”, with tiny bedrooms and a lot of wasted corridor space. It was important to reorganise the space entirely.

Re-alining the circulations, opening up the space to let the light in, creating larger bathrooms, adding closets and storage, and turning one of the bedrooms into a flexible space, here as an office, either open or closed depending on the need of the time, thanks to wooden sliding doors.

Having created a mono-chromatic limestone box, it was important to bring contrast with, first the wooden elements, but most importantly, with the fabric selection, to counterbalance the overall beige of the rooms. Textured, vibrant without being loud, matching the modern, yet elegant furnitures.

The flexibility of the layout is achieved with wooden sliding panels, carved to let the light pass and create elongated shadows on the limestone walls as the sun moves across the flat. With this system, you can either have a closed layout for privacy, or a fully opened one for entertainment.

Overall, We achieved a very warm atmosphere in an otherwise very minimalist setup. Both answering the desire to entertain, but also retreat from the chaos of everyday life.
